Ryan Gosling Storms Hollywood

In 2007 Ryan Gosling went idle for a few years. Putting his acting career on hold for a while he faded from our memories and remained locked in character as the romantic blondie we saw in The Notebook. But lately Gosling has proved himself by stepping up and playing with the big boys. His career has now been thrown into the blood spattered Hollywood ring along with the rest of the heart throbs. 

Ryan Gosling has grown to be the latest commodity, showing up in tabloids, on TV, and on your radio. And he has shown to have the ability to crawl into your head and shake things up a bit. It began with the 2010 emotional roller coaster, Blue Valentine. A film that came close to Oscar status, it also did Gosling a great service for his career. He showcased his talent once again in being the gentleman we all know him by, but a gentleman who's demise we watch as he slowly burns in the inferno of romance. 2011 marked a huge year for Gosling as he starred in Crazy, Stupid, Love. As a cavalier mentor on how to be a ladies man, Gosling once again showed us why he's the boss and why he is not going anywhere. The new film Drive solidified his untouchable status using black leather gloves, a hammer, and a lot of burnt rubber. Forget the pretty boy we are now experiencing a little bit of turbulence.

On October 7th we will see yet another Gosling showcase when he plays the character Stephen Myers in Ides of March. A film where Myer's partner Governor Mike Morris (Clooney) is in a tight race for presidential election. In order to pull of a victorious election things will have to get a little dirty on both sides.  Gosling will have to be the man to step up and decide what's right, and who he will support. Loyalty has been thrown out the window, and a dogmatic Gosling will turn up the heat in the white house.

With such an enormous come back over the past year i wonder where Hollywood would have been with the beloved Gosling in years before. He could have upgraded some roles in films that premiered in the years of his absence. Let's reconsider the direction of casting for film's that hit screens in 2008-2009.

Zooey Deschanel, Newest Goof on TV

The very ingenious Zooey Deschanel has made her name known worldwide over the past decade. She has been known as Hollywood's sweetheart, and now she has planted those innocent eyes into our nightly television programming with her newest show New Girl premiering September 20th.


Zooey was born on January, 17th, 1980 in Los Angeles, California. As both a talented actress and singer she has quickly jumped up the rankings of stardom. At first , Zooey started off in television with a role in the 1998 series Veronica's Closet. She then jumped right into the Hollywood mix two years later when she played the role as Anita Miller in the rock star film Almost Famous. In the movie she played the part as a quirky sister that isn't easily impressed. This character's personality gave her the stamp for the rest of her acting career. In 2002 she played the role as the dorky wanna be rock star in The New Guy. With a monotone voice one minute, and the voice of a world class singer the next, it was obvious that Deschanel had raw talent, but just needed a little make over to transform her from little girl to celebrity smokeshow. The 2003 Christmas classic Elf sold her talent to the world. One of best moments of that movie comes when she showcases her singing ability in the shower, and then again with a duet with Buddy the elf ( Will Ferrell). Opting out of finishing a college degree she has focused her attention in Television, film, and her new band with M.Ward, She & Him. In 2009 she married the lead singer for Death Cab for Cutie, Benjamin Gibbard.  And in 2010 She & Him's new album topped out at #6 on the Billboard 200. In 2010 she ranked #73 in Maxim's "Hot 100 Women".  And in 2011 she ranked #39 in FHM Australia "100 Sexiest Women in the World".

 At this point i am in love with her not only for her singing ability, but with the charm that comes from her character transformation from depression to elation. As an actress, that ability of role reversal gives me a respect for her that puts her on top as one of my favorite actress list. Deschanel's eccentric personality will keep her in the limelight, and her genuineness will keep her out of the celebrity gossip headlines, hopefully.

Premiere Week- 30 Minutes or Less, Jesse Eisenberg

Eisenberg's stock has been on the rise within the last few years. You most likely know his face from his main role in the Hollywood hit The Social Network (2010) as the internet guru Mark Zuckerberg, and the 2009 zombie comedy film Zombieland. His newest role in the film 30 Minutes or Less as a bank robber/ pizza delivery boy will be premiering this Friday. If everything goes as planned in the box office, he will be solidifying his name in being a rising youngster in the movie industry. He has already been nominated for an Oscar from his role in The Social Network, but this movie doesn't seem like it will have enough to put him over the edge so he can top that accolade.

 

Eisenberg was born October 5th, 1983 in New York City. His acting career started off on TV in the movie Lightning: Fire in the Sky. Then he landed the job in the TV series Get Real that finished  airing in 2002. He also played roles in the Shymalan film The Village in 2004, and The Squid and the Whale in 2006. It wasn't until 2009 that he broke out into big movie characters under promising directors. He starred in Adventureland and Zombieland in the same year and gave us a poor innocent boy that rivaled the also upcoming actor Michael Cera. Then in 2010 he gave us a witty and fiery performance in The Social Network that eventually led to what i thought was a sure Oscar award. 

With his new movie coming out I believe it will add to his resume along with another stepping stone for his career. Future projects include Free Samples, and Predisposed which are in the final stages of production. He is also currently filming The Bop Decameron, and possibly in pre-production of While We're Young. But I have my eyes on the Woody Allen film The Bop Decameron,  Eisenberg will be pairing up with Ellen Paige, making for a good competition between the two dorks of our generation. Premiere Week- Planet of the Apes actor James Franco

This Friday The Rise of the Planet of the Apes comes out as James Franco's newest project. Franco is a rising 33 year old from Palo Alto, California. He started his career in 1997 in the TV series Pacific Blue, and then went on to play a minor role in the chick flick Never Been Kissed in 1999 starring Drew Barrymore. But what really got his career in motion was playing the role Daniel Desario in the hit TV series Freaks and Geeks in 1999-2000.

From that point on he landed major parts in the blockbuster trilogy Spiderman, Spiderman 2, and Spiderman 3. In 2005 he began getting major roles more frequently. Such titles that were successful but were never deemed anything more than that were: Fool's Gold, Annapolis, Fly Boys, and In the Valley of Elah. In 2008 he played Saul Silver in the comedy Pineapple Express. This created a shift in the genre that Franco was previously limited to. He proved he had enough to take on a role in a comedy and not just in dramatic titles. a feat that launched him into a new herd of talented actors including Vince Vaughn, John C. Reilly, and Mark Wahlberg. His versatility was proven by how he could go from action blockbuster to laugh out loud comedy to a film up for an Oscar. In the same year he played a role in the movie Milk starring Sean Penn which took home 2 Oscars. Then in 2010 he played the major role in an indie film about Allen Ginsberg's masterpiece Howl.

It seems as though Franco loves to jump around a bit to tackle as many projects as he can while he is young and energetic. And he pours everything he has into whatever role he stars  as. 127 Hours, which i have to say is my favorite film of his, was nominated for 6 oscars in 2010 and since then he has taken on 12 more projects. Currently he is filming the prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of OZ, entitled Oz: The Great and Powerful. Franco has made a name for himself over the past decade and with time will only get stronger. His career has shown to have no limits, and more importantly one that he loves. While working on titles that he truly believes in it is easy for Franco to master the character's personality. He has defiantly soared to the top of my list for favorite actors, and for now that looks to hold true for quite a while.

Premiere Week- Cowboys And Aliens, Daniel Craig

On July 29th, this weekend the movie Cowboys and Aliens will premiere in theaters. A very refreshing title amongst a bunch of remakes, and sequels. Daniel Craig stars as cowboy Jake Lonergan who has ventured into a nearby western town and stirred up some trouble. He acts as the main figure who stands in the way of the alien invasion that seems to be pretty pissed off at these dusty gunslingers. And with the help of his little arm trinket he is quite the match for the Alien invaders. This upcoming weekend box office sales will be the ultimate judge of how successful the new intriguing story line will be.

Daniel Craig was born March 2, 1968 hailing from Chesire, England he didn't make it on the big screen until 1992 starring in the movie The Power of One as Sgt. Botha. But it wasn't till the end of the 90's that he got the role in major Hollywood grossing films. In the hit Lara Croft: Tomb Raider he played Alex West and Connor Rooney in Road to Perdition. In 2006 he landed a big role as James Bond in Casino Royale then later in 2008 Quantum of Solace. This summer his newest role in Cowboys and Aliens proves to bring Craig's stock even further up. In the future he has committed to 4 other titles including Dream House (completed), The Adventures of Tintin (post production), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (post production), and the 23rd installment of the Bond series (pre production).
