One of my most anticipated movies for the past year, The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo Dicaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey MaGuire is set to be released for Christmas 2012.
Based on the masterpiece by F.Scott Fitzgerald this novel comes to life on the big screen. Everything looks bigger, faster, and more scandalous as director Baz Luhrmann recreates the 1920's party lifestyle of New York. With a solid cast behind all the beloved characters this movie is no doubt going to be not only a great supplement to the book, but also a timeless classic.
Margin Call will most likely fly right by you quicker than learning conceptualized Wall street economics. Characters will fight, they will swear, and they will scurry around trying to protect their asses. But there might not be enough length in this movie to cover all their stories in complete detail. And we may lose interest just as fast. This film will probably skim the surface of a much deeper anecdote in recent American history.
By uncovering classified files that reveal the inevitable destruction of Americas financial stability, Peter Sullivan (Zachary Quinto) and his colleagues have sunk into a pit that there is no getting out of. Peter's career as an investment firm analyst appears to be short lived when he soon realizes how he is ruining the lives of millions of Americans. Somehow they messed up, and money is leaking out of their pockets. In order to stop the bleeding they will have to figure out a reasonable plan within 24 hours, or else this problem will accumulate and effect a lot more than just the company.
This film is based in the time span of the 2008 financial crisis, so the story line is fitting and will be told in such a context that it may seem like the actual true account. The circumstances of the complicated equations equaling catastrophic financial loss will most likely make for a witty movie. Hopefully for all of us non Wall Street gurus out there, we will be able to follow. This movie will throw a lot at you fast from what i have seen in the trailer. Once the information is leaked, they only have a small time frame to fix the dilemma before America turns into a third world country. Accelerated intensity from each character will fuel this movie right to the very end. With such an accomplished cast there may be a little nitro booster flaming out the muffler. But that maybe a little too fast. Mixed agendas and dueling consciousnesses will cause the mental states of each character to fold, and the group must all suffer the outcome together. How will this team deal with such a meticulous duty, and who will be standing after all is set and done?
Starring in this movie is a supreme cast including Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley, Demi Moore, and Simon Baker.
Margin Call will arrive in theaters on October 21st (USA)
Nicholas Cage stars in the heart pounding crime drama Trespass, where a family must face a home invasion of deranged criminals. The plot to rob this very wealthy family took a lot of planning, and a lot of balls. They are after whatever is behind the door of the safe, but the only way to open it is by the thumb print scan of Kyle (Cage). But he is not going to give that up so easily. With a plot of his own Kyle is willing to put the safety of his family in danger to protect his assets. What trick is up your sleeve this time Mr. Cage. I am guessing that by living in a house that is as secure as Fort Knox he has always had a back up plan if anyone breached his fortress. And i am assuming that in the end a premeditated scheme will blow our minds, and the mastermind will find a way to overcome adversity.
The story line seems to get complex as the motives of these thieves becomes undone. This team was out stalking Kyle as he was out doing the usually high roller business. Jonah Collins is a familiar face for the Miller family and as he saw Kyle signing for diamonds and exchanging cash with associates in the open he grew more and more motivated to take action. There will be quite the stand off in this one. Kyle will have to debate the intentions of these ski masked villains. Will his family be safe? How the hell can he turn the tide going against a gang of thugs with shottys and nothing to lose? That's an easy question, because he's Nicholas Cage and he can bullshit his way through anything. But from the trailer it looks like Nicole Kidman does a lot more fighting than him and he's just there for moral support. And then you give that man a chair and he just turned into your worst nightmare. Good save Kyle.
I can't find a reason for this movie to be top notch. Especially when its release date is smack dab in the middle of a lot better titles coming out. If your into these types of movies then you will probably enjoy this one. The 2005 film Hostage shares a similar story line. Not that great of a movie even though it featured Bruce Willis. So if you enjoyed that then Trespass will most likely hit on the same note. Movies like these always have a fair share of nail biting moments that will have you yelling "Get the hell out of there!". Or it could have you yelling "Ya ok, like that would ever happen". I tend to stick with asking the question "Dude, just kill him". Most of the time, when a movie raises questions not based on the complexity of the storyline, it tends to be crap. So we may need to stock up on aerosols before October 14th.
Coming out on October 14th is the remake of the 1982 sci-fi horror starring Kurt Russel, The Thing. The film introduces us to a recent discovery lodged in a ice shelf of Antarctica. Traveling across the globe to study this finding is the young graduate student Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Her skepticism about the creature is ignored by others at first, but they all soon realize that the discovery of the century will turn their expected fame into sure death.
Also starring in The Thing is Joel Edgerton as Sam Carter, Eric Christian Olsen as Adam Goodman, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Derek Jameson, and Ulrich Thomson as Dr. Sander Halvorson. It seems to be a pretty good cast that will all most likely perish. In my opinion Edgerton (Warrior) will most likely steal the show and try to be the hero that wields a pick axe and torches that spider demon with a flame thrower. But where would Mr. Carter be with out his fox intellect Kate. This camp will definitely be a shit show, and it will probably start and end with the kick ass tandem of Edgerton and Winstead.
I can't see a movie that goes by the title The Thing to be any good. It was successful in the 80's because it introduced pretty cool special effects for that time. But this is 2011 and Hollywood has explored the sci-fi genre a ton, and we have seen a lot of special effects that make the alien species a believable movie prop. So it will take a lot to impress an audience enough to buy a ticket to see this movie. From the trailer it seems to lack an in depth plot. They discover an alien, it goes nuts and kills people by copying cells in their body, and either a few will survive or everyone will die. There is the sci-fi, horror, and whatever else you were looking for in the movie, all in the trailer.
Curtis Laforche (Michael Shannon) has been mentally disturbed by images of a coming apocalypse. Clouds, wind, lightening, birds are all whipping up in front of him, but he finds himself all alone in seeing these happenings. On the brink of a complete mental breakdown he decides to follow through with his suspicions and build a underground shelter for his family. But after taking out a huge loan, losing his job, fighting with local neighbors, and spoiling his stable marriage, he decides that it would be best to commit himself in an institution for the schizophrenic. After learning this unfortunate condition was inherited from his mother he begins to think that maybe insanity is what has been aggravating him. But come the end, was he that deranged after all?
Schizophrenia is a condition that is still being uncovered in the field of genetics, neurology, and psychology. There has yet to be a discovered cure and treatment has often made circumstances even worse for specific subjects. Those who suffer from schizophrenia often suffer from disillusioned vision, disintegration of emotional responses, and muddled speech and thinking. Shannon's ability to portray a man who is completely lost in curiosity within the labyrinth of his own mind looks to be astounding. From what i have seen in the trailer, you can really draw out the fear living inside of him, and a type of fear that is laced with artificial composure that schizo's mask themselves with to blend with society. His character holds a certain legitimacy through his performance, therefore the story will be convincing.
This movie is set to be released September, 30th (USA), and has already got a lot of great reviews from critics when it was featured at the Sundance Festival, and Cannes Festival. This maybe too early to tell, but I am thinking Oscars.
A functional drug addict Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) who works for a small Houston law firm has gotten by pretty successfully. His practice trials with his fellow druggies in his motel room will get a bit more difficult with the newest case that the firm has just ventured in on. This case involves a nurse Vicky (Vinessa Shaw) and her predicament when she accidentally pricked herself with a syringe when attempting to inject a patient. But after Weiss and partner Paul Danziger (Mark Kassen) realize that a conspiracy is behind the incident, they become engulfed in case way over their heads. Weiss is determined to find a way to win the case, and with problems of his own it proves to become even more difficult in time.
Chris Evans seems to be perfect for this role. Being a witty firecracker he can sure stir things up a bit in the court room. And with his intensity there comes a hunger for finishing a case that others deemed over from the start. But just like b- rabbit, Weiss is "wondering when its time to stop living down here, and start living up there". Make or break the company, it doesn't matter anymore, because he wants power and is pretty pissed off at those cocky group of all-star lawyers. Evans will be at his best in this film, I guarantee it.
Being based on a true story i am really intrigued about this movie and cannot wait to see it. The whole theme of a doped up lawyer taking on one of the biggest firms in the country really seems like a great story. The detox through the hardship of drug addiction is a hard enough process to overcome, let alone being a prosecutor. The character of Mike Weiss will be sad, entertaining, fierce, and an overall circus on wheels. Puncture will be a hit. This film is coming out this Friday September, 23 (USA).
Living a life of lies, Nathan (Taylor Lautner) has stumbled across a missing person's website and realized that somehow his parents are not who he thought they were. He always had a suspicion that his life was somehow off even though he lived the life of an average teenager. And now his suspicion becomes truth, and he is caught in a daze where he has minimal knowledge of what he must do to survive. An organization of assassins are out hunting him down because he is a 'highly valuable asset'. His existence will come to light, but only if he can remain unseen. But after a long jaunt around Pittsburgh. Nathan deems enough is enough, and he is bringing the fight to them.
This fight isn't going to be won with just Lautner's good looks. It will take a lot of athletic ability in running around the city, leaping out of cars, and sliding down awnings. Nathan's parkouring and experience with weaponry calls for a massive clash of action. There will be explosions, car chases, round house kicks, and long make out sessions. But there will also be the terrible acting ability of Taylor Lautner. And i dont think Sigourney Weaver will be able to help out this avatar.
The concept of the movie seems okay, but the trailer is really pumping this movie up way more than it should be. In the end we will be left with an average story with another youthful and attractive schmuck that can't sell the audience an authentic character. Lautner's baby face shouldn't be driving around in a BMW with a hand cannon. He should be hiding in a closet crying. He will always get the girl, but will never be a bad ass.
Coming to theaters this Friday, September 23 (USA).
In the near future the world's population doesn't age past 25. The rich live forever and the poor die young, and have to work in slavery to pay off their debt. Their debt is being calculated right in front of them as a ticking time bomb on their arm. One man who has had enough of the immoral institution will do anything to make the most of the time he is allotted. Every citizen under the poverty line knows the system is flawed but no one has taken a stand against it. Will Salas has come to bring a judgment day on the heads of the wealthy.
Will Salas is a smooth rebel that can handle a pistol, and the stick of sports car. He is a 28 year old ladies man that lands a smoking hot ginger, who happens to be the enemies daughter. I just hope that he went Benjamin Braddock (The Graduate, '67) on that guys ass and slept with his mother in law, wife, and daughter that are all 25 year old sex goddesses. I know JT would have it in him but what about this futuristic Robin Hood we call Will? A true pioneer for all those blue collar Americans out there must take a break and make sweet love to his main squeeze. From what I have seen in the trailer, yes he does.
The beautiful Amanda Seyfried will be the Marion Loxley for Salas if you will. She is the Bonnie of this operation that will watch Will's six as he pulls off some James Bondesque fight sequences. Seyfried is the daughter of Philippe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser, Mad Men) and has been kidnapped by an alleged criminal (Salas). After spending a little time with Salas she goes against her filthy rich father in search for a little spark in her boring life, cue the theme of revolt over bourgeois opression.
All in all come October 28th (USA) this movie will be an excuse to get up off the couch and into the cinema. It does seem to have a lot of originality with underlying themes of science fiction, crime, political oppression, rebellion, and a love affair. And with quite a few action scenes it will fit today's Hollywood standard of potential "blockbuster". The lineup of actors proves this movie has had a large budget that would bring production value up along with the amount of tickets sold on opening weekend. Timberlake's acting career is on a rise to what i anticipate in being a supremacy in Hollywood. Cillian Murphy and Vincent Kartheiser will be top notch as the evil time keepers out to restore the crooked system that works to their benefit.
A remake of the 1984 classic starring Kevin Bacon, Footloose 2011 has finally came alive. This time there is a different twist on the music scene; substituting rock and roll for hip hop. With pretty much the same story line as the original, this film has caught my attention in being the next Step Up, but with an actual plot to go along with the dancing.
Kenny Wormald (You Got Served, 2004) has taken the main role as Ren MacCormack. He is a rebellious teen that likes to stir up a little bit of trouble in a small town. Dancing is his lifestyle and he will do anything to protect that passion. He also shares a passion for the girls, and in this movie his love affair is with the Reverend's (Dennis Quaid) daughter Ariel Moore (Julianne Hough). It will be a pretty big task for Wormald to fill Kevin Bacon's shoes, close to impossible. Without an actor like Bacon, there will be a massive void in this movie.
At first i thought it would be a great idea for a remake of this legendary flick. But now after realizing that Wormald will be going toe to toe with Bacon, i am having second thoughts. This film will lure in the young female audience just like the rest of those dance movies that came out in the past decade, nothing more. How can this new comer topple the intensity of Bacon's performance in the abandoned warehouse dance scene? How could he possibly rock a maroon suit coat with a black bow tie like Bacon did? And the answer my friends: he cannot.
Footloose premieres in theaters October 14th, 2011. (USA)
Based on the true story of the 2002 Oakland Athletics, a professional baseball team that has found itself on the bottom of the barrel in the MLB. With approximately 41 million dollars in salary the Oakland Athletics produced a team of no names based on statistics that have been overlooked by many scouts. Traditional scouting methods look more at RBI's and batting average, but what manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) looked at was on base percentage and slugging percentage. After years of being incapable to compete with powerhouses such as the New York Yankees, who spent 125 million dollars in salaries that year, the front office finally found a way to push their team into the post season. Facing a lot of uncertainty, Billy Beane and his crew of managers found a way to change baseball forever.
This movie is based on the novel by Michael Lewis that was published in 2003 and is due to premiere in the U.S. on September 23rd. In the novel Lewis talks about the lives of many professional baseball players, owners, coaches, and management. Most of the novel describes the life of Billy Beane and his unorthodox techniques in scouting. A man that is very opinionated and raises a lot of discussion in the world of baseball, both as a business and as a statistical evaluation.
Actors that will be starring in this movie will include Brad Pitt (Beane), Jonah Hill (Peter Brand), Robin Wright (Sharon), Chris Pratt (Scott Hatteberg), and Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Art Howe).
This movie should get a rise come its premiere weekend. Us Americans love our game of baseball, almost as much as we love our underdog success story. And with Pitt and Hill at the realm, this movie will make my list of movies to see this fall.
Bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war in search for the Epirus Bow, which is a weapon from the god Ares that can unleash the madness and brutality of Titans, who have been imprisoned by the gods for a very long time. Standing in his way is the peasent, Theseus (Henry Cavill), the true candidate chosen by Zeus himself to rid humanity of the evil that plagues it. And bearing the bow, he will bring down a shit storm of violence on top of the King, and save the bronze beauty in the mean time.
It is quite obvious that this movie was made from the producers of 300. The darkly lit cameo lighting, slow motion fight sequences, detailed desolate landscape, and intense war cries are exact replicas of 300, and Clash of the Titans for that matter. Clash of Titans, in being a complete flop looks to share even more similarities with Immortals. 300 set the benchmark for ancient mythology in 21st century Hollywood, and anything coming after seems to inevitably fall much shorter than what the creators would hope for. The reason these stories are such a bore is because we have already seen them in a different form. Corny battle speeches and mythological creatures have added to the cons of any present day movie. Even this year we have seen Conan the Barbarian take an unexpected flop in the box office, because it just included way too much artificial content. And just by watching the trailer most people will have an idea of how they will react after seeing this film, bored.
But there does seem to be one positive attribute coming out of this movie, Frieda Pinto. The beautiful Indian princess that has previously starred in movies such as The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Slumdog Millionaire.
Don't let the special effects fool you, this movie will be a disaster come November 11th (U.S.). Theseus will save all of humanity from the evil king, and the Gods will once again be at peace. And a whole lot of the mythical nonsense in between. There, I just saved you the admission price.
Coming out October 7th (USA) is the new robot fight film Real Steel. A story about a washed up boxer trying to regain his reputation in the ring. With a little kid by his side he will train a dumpster spar bot to fight like a champ. At first skeptical, Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) puts everything he knows about the game into helping this kid set out to what he has always dreamed to do. For Charlie, this is the one opportunity to turn around his life and the relationship he has with this kid and his girlfriend. Adam, will put him back on top.
The overall idea behind the movie looks pretty original but the underlying theme is definitely a bit cliche. A futuristic version of Rocky where the underdog gets hit with criticism from all over, and then lays the beat down to make his way to the top. As we all know, Hollywood loves their underdogs. The only difference here is that there will be 2,000 pounds of metal flying everywhere in the ring. From what i can guarantee this film will pack a lot of special effects, and really intend to glorify elaborate fight sequences. But in the end we will be left with a movie that we have already seen a million times before.
In my opinion combining two movies that have already come out this year (Transformers, Warrior) into one is not going to cut it. It is always entertaining to watch robots destroy each other, but looking beyond the digitally enhanced scenes, we will find nothing but the obvious. And Real Steel will slip into 'mediocracy' faster than you can say "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots".
A movie based on the 1960 Hunter S Thompson novel. The Rum Diary seems to take a similar direction to the Thompson novel remake that also stars Johnny Depp, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Another film that throws the characters for a whirl in a party hard lifestyle full of drugs and alcohol, lots and lots of alcohol. And as we all know, Depp's supremacy comes in the form of disturbed characters in trippy plots.
Paul Kemp (Depp) works as a journalist for the The Daily News of San Juan Puerto Rico. And as a freelance journalist he confronts the Caribbean lifestyle with a laid back, free and easy attitude. But along his path he must face the conflicts of violence, jealousy, and a complicated relationship with a blonde babe (Amber Heard). Thompson includes the over arching theme of growing old. He shares his fear of the inevitable by creating this fictional story about a small newspaper company on the fritz, and the raging alcoholics that are employed there.
Also starring in this movie are Aaron Eckhart (Sanderson), Giovanni Ribisi (Moberg), Richard Jenkins (Lotterman), and Amaury Nolasco (Segurra). It is due to premiere in the United States on October 28th, 2011, and it is my prediction that Oscars will soon follow.
Of all the epidemic movies that have come out over the years this one looks to be the god honest truth. The Bird Flu. A very sensible prediction of what will be the end of man kind. One bird infects one person, and within months billions of people are infected. With a deadly disease spreading so rapidly there is no way that scientists will be able to find a vaccine that will kill the virus in time. Those birds are pretty scary after all, Alfred Hitchcock saw that coming first. I guess we should of listened to the warnings of the master of suspense. Those evil little rats with wings!
Starring in this movie is a superb crew that includes Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburn, Bryan Cranston, Marion Cotillard, and Jude Law. So there's the medley for ya. We got British accents, a French accent, Morpheus, Walter White the drug lord, Jason Bourne, and a milf blondie. Seems like the perfect crew to be caught up in the plague that ends all mankind.
I think the crew can save this movie from an average box office showing. This will definitely be a watch for me, and it will separate itself from the pile of other epidemic movies that i thought were OK, but nothing special (28 Days Later, Quarantine, The Happening, The Reaping, Children of Men). There have been countless amounts of movies that have to do with the same theme over and over again, and this will be a much better variation of all of them. From what i have heard this movie will be sickening to audiences, and sad in revealing how close the worlds population is to such a disaster. This will be one of those eye opening movies that will make you walk out of the theater to the nearest store to buy some hand sanitizer. And maybe Hitchcock wasn't the only one who warned us. Damn you Howie Mandel!
In closing, I am very interested in seeing how this film will do in the box office on opening weekend. I am going to predict something around 15 million the first weekend. And then a drop off by only a few million the following week. I think the PG-13 rating is really doing this movie a disservice, but come September 9th we will see how painful our future plague will really be, entrails or no entrails.
Ryan Gosling has got himself into a lot of trouble with higher up criminals. As a stunt man he has made a living off driving, and driving unbelievably well. But when he decides to get involved with a heist as the getaway driver things go terribly wrong. Everyone has turned on him and the contract has made its way on his head. Probably because he gets involved with an ex-con's wife. That's so Goslingesque. But this angry pretty boy is something i haven't seen from him yet. A little attitude and a tire iron can take a movie a long way. Or how about literally hammering a bullet into a guys forehead? Yes please.
Drive doesn't seem like it will have too many ridiculous actions scenes, but rather a true crime drama full of dialogue and a complex story line. And for that reason I am motivated to see it. The swagger of Gosling mixed with the sexy Carey Mulligan and the bad ass Ron Perlman makes for 100 minutes of love making, fast paced chase scenes, and merciless brutality. leather gloves, hair product, and a stick shift will give a new definition to the crime drama pretty boy. Gosling has seemed to separate himself from the Paul Walker breed (Fast & the Furious), and fallen closer to the James Bond kind. A type of character that will always score a hottie and kill a few villains while escaping sure death. This indie film is set to appear in theaters on September 16th (USA).
Tucker and Dale are the type of guys that you would only find by driving into the deep woods of Nowhereville, USA (Or West Virginia). Meat heads that are innocent but when judged by appearances seem pretty messed up, like leather face messed up. In Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil their appearances cause them a lot of trouble when they run into a group of college kids out on their camping/drinking binge trip. Like so many horror movies before, this movie follows the theme of irresponsible kids falling into the hands of the mentally disturbed. But it doesn't stop there.
In the attempt of being nice hosts, Tucker and Dale's intentions are mistaken for dark and cruel. And the college campers have decided to plot a retaliation so they can get their hottie friend back. Tucker and Dale are both completely oblivious of the mix up and continue being their space cadet selves when approached by the kids. When it starts to turn ugly and a few kids start dying from their own stupidity Tucker and Dale assume its a mass suicide and that they should steer clear. But they cannot escape the misfortunes that hang over them. Tucker and Dale are pitted against no one, except the devil. The true master of evil that has made a comedy out of these misinformed wanderers.
In a Scary Movie fashion, the horror/comedy could have made a comeback. This movie can easily be one of my favorite dumb comedies of the year. The whole story line and actors may be a little sub par, but the reason I watch comedies like these is to laugh, nothing else. Comedies like these as in low cost production films that really aim to exaggerate the situational irony that occurs among the characters. Coming in with an early prediction I believe this film will score around a low B for me. And that is pretty good considering i don't really like to bother with "these" kind of movies. It is set to premiere in theaters come September 30th, 2011.
So how do you make a comedy about cancer? Well I would never do that because it would easily offend someone, but that's why I am not a director. Because that is what directors do, they take risks and if it doesn't work out then they try again. Every director has a few bad eggs. But Jonathan Levine is playing with fire in blending humor with a very serious subject. His idea for the project came from his own personal struggles with family members who suffered from cancer. So having a connection with such a serious illness could reflect a genuine plot full of sympathy that will evoke an emotional reaction of the audience.
Seth Rogen and Joesph Gordon-Levitt star in a movie where two best friends have to deal with the fact that one of them has been diagnosed with cancer. And that with his newly developed tumor, his chances of survival are 50/50. Adam's (Gordon-Levitt) battle with cancer has gotten the best of him and he begins to have a melt down. After seeing a psychiatrist he starts to realize how he is going to have to deal with the fact that he may not last much longer. And that is where Kyle (Rogen) comes in. Showing him to appreciate the small things in life that everyone else takes for granted, Kyle's role is to ease the stress his best friend has been put under. And with having the thought of death hanging over your head, everyone needs someone to be there for them all the time. Someone that can make them forget about it for a while, and focus on what they have in front of them. This type of therapy will give Adam the chance to not only forget about his condition, but ease his anxiety if he reaches an early death.
The comedic theme of 50/50 will be overshadowed by the despairing theme of cancer. So i am expecting this film to be a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. One that will have you laughing one minute and biting your lip the next. Come September 30th there will be tears, but the only thing we don't know is if they will be tears of happiness or sorrow.
Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead a team in a plan to take down a billionaire that took their money in a Ponzi scheme. Standing in the way of them is a virtual impossible task that involves getting past a grade A security system with a few watchmen at each corner of the premises. With a ton of heist movies coming out over the last decade it worries me that the theme has gone a little stale. But we haven't seen this group of special actors take on a project like this one. For an early prediction i have a strong feeling this will be a Hollywood gem.
Even though the cast includes a very humorous Stiller and Murphy it has a very serious and elaborate plot. Screen writer Ted Griffin stated in an interview with Empire magazine "I think we have one of the freshest heists we've ever seen. Even on paper, when i read it, i said, 'How the hell am i going to execute this?'". The theme involves the contemplative techniques that go into a white collar crime, with a crew that will put a comedic twist on it. And when trying to pull off a heist like this that is the last thing you need. But for the audience, we are always looking for a complicated and original story line. So come November prepare for the new Ocean's Eleven, but with a few more laughs.
This new film looks to be a collaboration of laugh out loud nonsense mixed together with eye opening crime expertise. A theme that makes it one of the more anticipated movies of 2011 for me. This group of working stiffs are set to commence their Tower Heist and get their revenge on November 4th.
For the second weekend in a row, monkeys will be under attack. But in 30 Minutes or Less it will be in the form of the monkey masked villains of Danny McBride ( Eastbound and Down) and Nick Swardson (The Benchwarmers). On August 12th, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) will have to deal with the issue of having a bomb strapped to his chest while he is ordered to rob a bank. And with the little help of his friend Chet (Aziz Ansari) it looks to be quite the absurd scheme.
This foursome of actors could be enough to make this film a worthwhile viewing. Fleischer doesn't really have a lot of experience as a director. With the only big movie he has produced being Zombieland, it may be a bit of stretch to say this film will be creatively outrageous. Even though i did enjoy Zombieland a little bit (just a little). But McBride and Swardson are a very funny duo, especially when they are dressed in monkey suits. I am expecting 30 Minutes or Less to be full of satire and situational irony that will bring the characters head on with their own comedic destruction. The normal lives of two young men will meet the outlandish lives of two others, and they will be flung into circumstances that will test their idiotic decision making skills. However the cards fall, this comedy will be one worth a viewing. There is no expectations for it to be an outstanding ticket seller come Friday, but this film will be no flop, not with this crew behind the reigns.
How far would you go to save your pet from the dangers of war? Apparently this young boy Albert would go all the way to France through the war torn countryside to find his beloved horse Joey. During World War 1 Joey was sold to the calvary and sent into a sure death among poisonous gas, machine gun rounds, and massive explosions . But from what I have seen in the trailer, this horse is resilient and one of the most noble steeds a man could have. The horse version of 50 Cent who could get popped 8 times and still trek it home in time to collect them papers. Albert has got something special, i would say this movie is going to be a tear jerker. Joey will make his way through the war and run away and eventually right back to Albert. Due to the wounds he obtained while charging the trenches of the enemy he will most likely die in the arms of his owner (Cue the tears of sorrow). And cue the Oscar nominations.
