Thoughts:
Before watching the movie Howl i had a pretty good idea of who Allen Ginsberg was. And that is one of the contributing factors of why i enjoyed the movie so much. His poetry is a product of the Beat Generation that started in the late 50's and forever changed the way we see literature. His use of long drawn out sentences stretched into a spiral mess of images somehow made for an interesting look at poetry. Interesting because of its originality. Upon reading the book Howl i felt like i traveled up through shits creek, then back down with a better sense of myself and the world. But while i was reading it so many images were thrown at me that i was sometimes lost because i was trying to analyze every line. But what the movie did was create an actual visual of each line so people can see the message clearly. And through the movie i realized that sometimes the words could not be translated into prose, but rather had to be left as a visual. Ginsberg is regarded as one of histories greatest poets of the 20th century, and this movie is a revamping of an old classic. A fresh renewal through the brilliance of actor James Franco.
