Mad Men- Matthew Weiner

Thoughts:

After hearing about this show from multiple sources in my communications classes i decided to give it a try. Now i don't really commit to watching shows and i can only think of a couple in the past that i have actually took the time to dive into (South Park, Prison Break, That 70's Show). But after watching the first season i can definitely say that it was worth the time.

This show takes place in the early 60's at a advertising agency in New York, and most of the time at the offices on Madison Avenue, Which is the reason for the term 'Mad Men'. With a collaboration of pretty good actors and a couple stand outs there seems to be a healthy chemistry between characters. I specifically enjoyed the main themes of drinking, love affairs, and business during a time of a consumerism boom. This time frame marked a turning point in America and utimatley western cultures influence on the rest of the world. A time where a handful of men forgot morals and focused on economic gain while directing the minds of the people toward a capitalist culture. There have been 4 seasons total so i have a lot of catching up to do, and recently it has been announced that there will be 3 more seasons. It has won 13 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes since 2008, and season 5 is set for airing on AMC in 2012.
