Dexter Season 1 - 2006
I have finally got the time to sit down and watch another show. After watching 13 episodes of the 2006 Showtime crime drama Dexter i really felt like it would be worth my time watching seasons 2,3,4,5, and 6, whew. I have a lot of catching up to do, but many people that i have talked to said it only gets better. Overall my thoughts were very positive but with a few negatives.
The character Dexter ( Michael C, Hall) was by far the brightest star of the show and without his character identity this show would fall apart. He plays a blood loving middle aged man that shows little to no emotion but struggles in his attempts of fitting in with society in order to cover his ass. If he actually was the true Dexter to everyone then it would be pretty obvious that he is a serial killer, but a good one. That's right, you will fall in love with a guy that butchers others and smiles back at them when their throats are slit. This show has a sick and twisted theme and somehow manages to make it seem perfectly fine and entertaining.
The bad side to it is that it is very predictable at time, well at least for me. By having a narration of the inner demon inside dexter it basically gives the audience a guidebook through the whole show. This could be a good thing because it can appeal to a bigger audience and helps people understand sometimes confusing scenarios. But for me, i enjoy analyzing the piece and having no idea this chick was killed for this reason, or the killer is actually banging your sister! Oh yea, the second mistake of the show was hiring Jennifer Carpenter. She plays Dexter's adoptive sister and detective, that wont shut the hell up. During the show i felt locked in a weird fascination of Dexter and his dirty secrets, then out of the blue comes his nagging little sister complaining about how her feelings are hurt, or i am getting the worst cramps this week. I became very irritated with her to the point where i was yelling at the TV. Deb, why don't you relax, Dex doesnt want to get lunch with you because he doesn't want your voice going right through his head like his surgical power drill.
Overall i really look forward to seeing more of Dexter and his struggles in society, and a little less whining bitch Debby. Oh, and maybe a few more limbs being hacked off a dead hooker, YUMM.
