The Walking Dead, Season 1- Frank Darabont

Looking through the itunes library of television shows i came across one that wasn't going to set me back too much financially. The new television series The Walking Dead is about 10 dollars right now for 6 episodes. I never considered myself to be a fan of the zombie genre, but i have to say that a television series does it a justice. With zombie movies there is not enough time to get to know the characters before their small intestine becomes dinner. A long drawn out series opens up a new kind of zombie art full of characer relationships, internal conflicts, and ongoing paranoia.

The series opens up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia introducing the main character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who is a police officer who was put into a coma after being shot while on duty. After waking up and finding a whole lotta blood in the hallways of the hospital he stumbles outside to find a whole lotta bodies piled up in  a parking lot. Like what any good father would do, he made it his goal to stop at nothing to find his wife and son, except she is already getting banged out by his best friend! Now there is one major conflict right there, and that doesn't even include the blood thirsty masses that lurk on the streets.

The good part about this show is the actors are actually pretty good. Lincoln is the star and plays the role quite well. He is very calm and collected and is the person you want next to you when the guts hit the fan. And i think he is even more of a force with the tall trooper hat he constantly wears. Sarah Wayne Callies plays Rick's wife Lori Grimes. Every good show that i have watched has a babe, and she is it. I sometimes get caught in a trance untill im interrupted by a zombie with half of his face falling off. I would be very upset if any of those monsters layed one rotting finger on her.

I am looking forward to seeing more seasons of this show. Darabont has made it known that he is in it for the long run. I hope that this show catches on for those who are hesitant about the zombie genre because this series has a lot more to offer then Zombieland did. Maybe this will be more of a competition against the Vampire genre which has made itself into a chick flick all together. This could be the men's show about death and destruction. Men don't care about love stories mixed with death, they want death, kill, stab, shoot, blood, guts, death. And sex shown with a camera angle on the hot female, and in this case its Lori Grimes, get to know her. I really like the show, but its lack of originality brings my rating down a little bit. Maybe after i see more than 6 episodes there can be a new found originatlity. I do remain optimistic about the direction Darabont is taking this series in.
