Conan The Barbarian- Marcus Nispel August 19th

Here's some more swordplay, blood, death, and yelling for you in case you haven't gotten enough this year. Conan The Barbarian looks like it will offer the right amount of blood that we all yearn for in a rated R movie. The warrior has gone forth on a quest to ensure the freedom of his innocent people against the captivity that comes in the form of tyrant rulers and mythological beasts. But aside from kicking so much ass in just under 112 minutes it seems as though the character of Conan is one that pertains to a love interest and a man of great will.

From what I expect, this movie will have a story line much similar to the original, just with a much better Conan in Jason Momoa. This Conan can actually speak English fluently when he is inspiring those around him to take arms against the evils that plague his land (As opposed to Schwarzenegger). Momoa first caught my attention in the new series on HBO Game of Thrones when he played the barbarian king Khal Drogo. His character didn't require much dialogue but he possessed enough attitude and straight faced emotion to make his character one of my favorites. Without even one muscle in his face moving he acted enough for me to appreciate him. That is something to be recognized. But Conan seems to be a little bit different. He does have tree trunk legs and pectorals that can dance, and he does wield a sword like a champ, but his character is more vocal and determined. From what is revealed in the trailer, Conan is a new type of warrior reflective of a classical one (Schwarzenegger). A bronze beauty that can not only fight but lead by his voice. I am starting to think that barbarian maybe the wrong classification for this man. He is a gentle lover, intelligent leader, and lone wolf that has the capability to take down a whole colossus army.

I am very excited to see this movie but i do remain a bit skeptical about it being on the same level as Beowulf or Clash of the Titans. Conan The Barbarian involves a fair bit of fantasy which is dangerous territory for any director. Because too much can sink the ship pretty fast. I have faith in Nispel to indulge in the interesting Conan identity of modern day. By exploiting him this movie will open up another beloved tale of the heroism in man in a phantasmal world of evil, destruction, and mystery. I just hope the creatures, sandmen, and demons don't take anything away from the plot by being too fake and annoying. Animation can be cancerous even for the most well written story lines.
